Microsoft Windows 7 allows you to create separate user accounts, each with their own personalized settings for any user that needs access to the computer. Each individual user account can have separate and private files and folders, their chosen default printer, personal favorites, a custom desktop background, along with many other personal configuration options. This tutorial will show you how to create a new user account with or without a password to provide limited access to the account.

To create a new user account, begin by:

  1. Clicking on “Start” or the Pearl in the lower left corner of your screen.
  2. Then click on “Control Panel” shortcut.

  1. Next click on “Add or remove user accounts”.

  1. Next click on “Create a new account”.

  1. Next, enter the user name for the new account that you’re creating.

  1. Next, select the type of account that you want the new user to have, “Standard User” or “Administrator”.

  1. Once you have made your selection click on the “Create Account” button in the lower right corner of the window.

  1. At this point your new account should now be listed under the “Manage Accounts” screen. If you want to password protect the new account click on the new account.

  1. Next, click on “Create a password”.

  1. Next, enter the password that you want to use for accessing the account. And also enter a password hint for the account, just in case you forget what the password is.

  1. Next, click on the “Create Password” button in the lower right .

  1. As you can now see, you new account is now password protected. You can now exit out of the control panel.

  1. This completes this tutorial.
