What Is A Browser Hijacker?

Hijackware Definition

A browser hijacker is a form of malware that changes your web browser search settings and then hinders your attempts at changing the settings back to what you want them to be.

Browser hijackers may be bundled with legitimate programs that you might download online. And like adware, they may include an End User License Agreement that states what changes they may make on your computer. Malicious browser hijackers on the other hand will make modifications to your search settings without your consent. They may also modify your website shortcuts without your knowledge or consent. And when you try to open your original website shortcuts, you will be directed to various websites unrelated to your original shortcuts. And many of those sites may be malicious in nature.

Some browser hijackers can be removed easily, while others require more complex removal procedures similar to the techniques used to remove computer viruses.
